If you are considering replacing all the units within the same window frame, measure each window from indoors, the width from plaster to plaster, and the height from the top of the window sill up to the plaster at the top. The number of units will then be the number of individual window panes in the overall window, the example on the left has 5 units.

 If you wish to price a number of units that are roughly the same size, remember that for more than one unit, the measures must cover the total area of all the units. ie multiply either the width or height by the number of units.

Remember as a guide, windows in doors, conservatories, stairways or where the unit base is lower than 80cm must be toughened for safety purposes.
